It is just about summer. In Mississippi.
The time when spring flows into summer in MS is simply heavenly. It is hot, and humid, and sticky, of course, but it's also late nights, sno cone breaks in the middle of the day, lying on the concrete gazing at the stars, swim parties and cookouts, watermelon, peaches for lunch. All things glorious under the sun. Summers are where memories are made and stories are told. It is the time to soak in life and dance through parks. For early morning walks and late night jumps in the pool. Summer is my favorite time of the year. Especially in MS.
This is also our first summer where either of us have had a "real job", and by that I mean an 8-5 job. This is also the first summer where we have been married, and one in which we were not leaving again in the Fall to return to college. We are in a period of many firsts and it is just "loverly".
In our own way, we have each embarked on a journey to discover more of what we want out of life. What we feel from our souls, what we would love to do each and every day, how to show our love to each other, how to raise (future) children, and how to spread our love outward. It's a tough journey, we're finding. At the end of the day we are tired and normally have a tough time just making something for dinner, yet alone spending quality time pushing ourselves to get out there and try/learn new things. But we ARE trying. It's slow moving, but we've taken the first step which is the hardest. We are pushing each other and looking for other outlets to learn from. We are married and young and feel as if the world is at our fingertips.
I think it's all in the way we view it. If we make it so that the daily grind doesn't put us down constantly- and we make an effort to expand our horizons- we will be ok. Even after we have 175 children (surprise!), and are even more exhausted, busy with work, household chores, etc, I hope we will still take the time to discover the world and learn more. I never want to stagnate.
What's the point in working if you can't enjoy the benefits?
There is so much around us that is always changing, growing, becoming more and more amazing. Life is wonderful. It is easy to get sidetracked and forget to look at the wonders of every day living. Push yourself to notice.
Pay attention. Be astonished. Tell about it.
Beautifully stated. Robert and I were just talking about the many 'firsts' of marriage. . .We still marvel at our firsts. Make memories and hold them close. These days are precious and go by too fast. Before you know it there will be the pitter patter of feet and you will not know where one day ends and a new one begins! Keep on keeping on! We love you and are here for anything. :-)
